A human adult or animal is a creature that has developed to the fullest extent. The term "adult" is often applied to human beings to refer to social and legal concepts. As opposed to "minor" or "non-adult" legally-aged adult is a person that has reached the age of the age of majority. They are considered to be responsible, independent and competent. They may also be regarded as a "major". The age when a child becomes an adult legally is 18, however, the definition of maturity is different based upon the nation or legal system, as well as the psychological condition of the child.

The lifespan of a human being adulthood is the time at which he or she is at the point of complete mental and physical maturity. Typically, the age of adulthood is around age 21, or 20. The middle age is about 40 years old before being followed by an elderly age of 60. The three major stages of adulthood include early adulthood (from mid-30s through late-60s) and middle adulthood, from the mid-30s through late-60s, and finally adulthood (mid-60s through the time of death). By the time we reach an early age (20 to mid-40s) the physical development is completed, though the size and weight of our bodies could increase a bit. During young adulthood we reach the highest level of physical capabilities.
