Katarina Witt started skating at the age of five. Her talent soon became obvious as she enrolled into a school specifically designed for children with a talent for sports in Karl-Marx-Stadt. At this school, she was introduced to their trainer Jutta Muler. Witt was able to make her debut year in 1982, when she finished second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Then, she was dominating the sport with elegance and grace. Olympic victory Katarina Wit took home gold in the women's ice skaters during the Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a highly competitive and intense contest. Her victory four years ago was even closer. She didn't win the contest for free skating, but she did win gold on the basis of results during the compulsory figure and short program. Witt became the first woman to win in both the men's and women's figure-skating competitions in the past since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame After enjoying the success of an actress, Witt returned to the sport to compete at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. Although she didn't take home a single gold medal, she enchanted fans despite the fact that she finished seventh. Witt's entry into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
